My Son The Doctor

My Son the Doctor plays an eclectic, infectiously danceable mix of Eastern European, Balkan, and Mediterranean folk musics, with an emphasis on Yiddish, Hebrew, and Romani traditions: Klezmer dance tunes, Yiddish folk, jazz, and theater songs, contemporary and traditional Romani songs, and Balkan pop.

My Son The Doctor has performed every year at the Richmond Jewish Food Festival!

Klezm’Or’Ami’m

Performing Sunday, Nov. 10 @ 6 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 11 @ 5 p.m.

Klezm’Or’Ami’m (which translates into “klezmer musicians from Congregation Or Ami” celebrates its 30th Anniversary this year. The late Alan Smith founded the group in 1994 and since that time nearly 30 different musicians have played in the band. Klezm’Or’Ami’m has and continues to include both Jewish and non-Jewish members and has included congregants of nearly every synagogue in Richmond and from the ages of 13 to 70+.

They enjoy performing to new audiences unfamiliar with klezmer as well as to those who are familiar with this genre of music.
